Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the need for a more defined direction.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

The news follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a clearer brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to mind and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our fans.
The belief in this project increases every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. After several months of talks, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having devoted the recent years creating and leading some of the most well-known series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
